Sugarloaf Opens for 22/23 Season

CARRABASSETT VALLEY, Maine (November 18, 2022) – The mood was jubilant this morning, as hundreds of skiers and snowboarders turned out to kick off the 2022/23 winter season at Sugarloaf.

Thanks to favorable snowmaking conditions over the past five days, plus a foot of natural snow in the last week, skiers and riders enjoyed early season turns on 7 trails spanning 55 acres and 5 miles – the most of any resort currently open in the East.

Sugarloaf’s opening efforts this year have been bolstered by a snowmaking system that saw substantial upgrades over the summer, including the construction of a new mid-mountain booster pumphouse that have enabled the snowmaking team to run more guns simultaneously. Sugarloaf also added an additional 100 HKD low energy snowguns to its fleet, as well as a number of fully-automated fan guns.

"The recent upgrades to our snowmaking system are allowing us to cover more terrain faster than ever before, and the results were obvious out there today,” said Karl Strand, Sugarloaf General Manager. “It’s great to kick off the season with the most open terrain in the East.”

Sugarloaf will remain open daily for the remainder of the winter season. Lift tickets are available to purchase online at www.sugarloaf.com.
