Race Info

The Course

The MAXXIS Eastern States Cup Showdown here at Sugarloaf will consist of two race disciplines: enduro and downhill. For the non-racer, the objective of each is simple – ride from the top of the course to the bottom as quickly as you can, time-trial style.

The enduro mountain bike race involves four timed stages that are primarily downhill but vary in steepness, length, and difficulty depending on location. Between each stage, there will be untimed “transfer stages” that are mostly uphill. Depending on the stage, the transfer will either involve pedaling, hiking or chairlift riding.

Stage one and two begin over on the eastern side of the mountain on Tohaul, traversing ski trails and trees in the Whiffletree area, with suggested spectating in Broccoli Garden and Moose Alley. The transfers for these stages run along Mountainside Road, Condo Crosscut and Crosshaul. Stage three begins near the intersection of Pick Pole and Binder on the western side of the mountain, traverses the Timberline Trail through horseshoe and down Windrow, while stage four descends Sheerboom across Peavey, through Rookie River, and finished on the Landing. The SuperQuad will serve at the primary transfer for these stages.

The downhill race, which consists of a single stage, begins on Tote Road, near the intersection of Double Bitter, with sections dipping in and out of the woods along the Tote Road and Scoot trails, with a finish corral on the Landing.

Spectating

As the event takes place in numerous locations across the mountain, there are serveral spectating opportunities within walking distance of the base. The loose schedule and recommended viewing areas are outlined below with the corresponding course map:

Please Note: The SuperQuad will be running for registered racers with a valid RFID ticket only. Lift-service will not be available for spectators.  Viewing areas above the Base Lodge can only be accessed by hiking. Personal vehicles and ATVs are not permitted on the mountain at any time.
