Sugarloaf Welcomes Fresh Snow On Opening Day
Sugarloaf Mountain officially kicks off its 2024/25 Season
CARRABASSETT VALLEY, Maine - Sugarloaf Mountain officially kicked off its 2024/25 winter season this morning at 8:30 AM, with skiers and riders greeted by eight inches of snow which fell over the last 48 hours.
Opening day offerings include three trails and terrain park features, all accessible via the SuperQuad lift, which will operate daily from 8:30 AM to 3:50 PM. The first 50 guests in line received a limited-edition Sugarloaf x Blackstrap Buff to commemorate the occasion.
"The combination of natural snowfall and improved efficiency in our snowmaking system has led to great opening day conditions. We’re excited to get our 74th season underway and starting off strong," said Karl Strand, General Manager of Sugarloaf. “Temperatures take a dip and remain favorable for snowmaking to begin as early as this evening allowing us to expand and open more terrain for Thanksgiving weekend.”
This year, Sugarloaf continues to showcase the results of its long-term investments in mountain infrastructure. Snowmaking upgrades over recent years include more than 700 HKD tower guns, 400 KLIK hydrants, and 13 automated SMI fan guns, which improve efficiency and expand coverage. A newly installed 20-inch water main boosts capacity by nearly 10%, while six portable fan guns enhance snow production at high-traffic base areas. Additionally, this season marks the first full year of the West Mountain expansion, featuring the Bucksaw Express lift and 12 new trails, offering family-friendly terrain with stunning mountain views.
