Sugarloaf Bike Park Now Open for the Summer
New England’s Newest Lift-Serviced Bike Park Kicks Off with Sunny Skies, Flow Trails, and Festivities
CARRABASSETT VALLEY, ME – Sugarloaf’s highly anticipated lift-serviced downhill mountain bike park officially opened for its first summer season on Friday, July 4, welcoming riders with clear skies, top-to-bottom flow trails, and a celebratory weekend on the mountain.
Opening day delivered perfect riding weather and drew riders from across New England to experience Emerald—a 3-mile intermediate flow trail built for speed, progression, and pure downhill fun. The machine-built trail features smooth rollers, sweeping berms, and optional features designed to challenge experienced riders while still welcoming those new to gravity-fed biking.
Guests accessed the trail via the Whiffletree chair lift, gaining over 1,050 vertical feet per lap. From first chair to final lap, the park was alive with stoke as riders flowed down the trails and gathered at the Beach for food, drinks, and festive vibes. Live music kept the momentum going all weekend long, while families and riders soaked in the sunshine and summer mountain atmosphere.
“This was the kind of opening we dreamed about—perfect weather, incredible trail conditions, and a vibrant mountain community ready to ride,” said Bike Park Manager Adam Craig. “We’re just getting started, and it’s exciting to see this vision finally come to life.”
Craig, a Maine native, Olympian, and national champion, has played a pivotal role in shaping the Sugarloaf Bike Park experience, from trail design to rider development. Emerald is just the beginning, with a beginner trail, Syncline, already in the works, and more trail development slated throughout the season and beyond.
The lift also grants access to Sugarloaf’s more advanced Enduro and Downhill trails, including iconic tracks from past Eastern States Cup and Enduro World Cup races—like Jackpot, Widowmaker Extension, and Rookie River. Just beyond the lift-accessed terrain, riders can explore trails like Rock Lobster and Crusher DH for a taste of natural Maine terrain and big machine-built features.
The Sugarloaf Bike Park is a cornerstone of the resort’s 2030 development plan and a key piece of its growing summer operations. With Carrabassett Valley already known as a top-tier mountain biking destination, the addition of lift-serviced terrain makes Sugarloaf a must-ride location for riders across the Northeast.
