2025 Summer Update
CARRABASSETT VALLEY, ME – Sugarloaf, Maine’s largest ski area, is charging into its 75th season with the opening of a brand-new lift-served bike park and significant investments in mountain infrastructure, including expanded snowmaking capacity and upgrades to the iconic SuperQuad chairlift.
After four years in the making, the Sugarloaf Bike Park officially opened on July 4 with 18 trails designed for riders of all abilities. The park is led by past Olympian and national champion Adam Craig, who has created a world-class experience in the heart of Carrabassett Valley.
“After four years in the making, we officially opened the Sugarloaf Bike Park, an exciting new addition to our summer amenities,” said Karl Strand, Sugarloaf President & General Manager. “It’s been incredible to see the energy it has brought to the mountain this summer.”
A highlight of the new park is Syncline, a beginner-friendly green trail that now offers a full top-to-bottom learning route. The park operates Friday through Sunday and features a complete bike shop and rental fleet at Downhill Supply.
The upgrades don’t stop there. Sugarloaf’s new Vice President of Mountain Operations, Brent Larson, emphasized the progress being made across the resort.
“Ever since we opened the lift-served mountain biking park, the stoke has been high,” said Larson. “At the same time, we’ve made significant improvements to snowmaking and lift infrastructure that will make an immediate impact this winter.”
The SuperQuad, the workhorse of Sugarloaf’s lift fleet, is celebrating 31 years with a full haul rope replacement. Snowmaking crews also completed a three-year project to upgrade the mountain’s main water line from 14 inches to 20 inches, dramatically increasing capacity. Additional improvements include redeployed pipe on Spillway XCut and Gin Pole, new tower guns on West Mountain and Spurline, and a fourth booster pump to increase speed and efficiency.
“Our goal continues to be to offer all snowmaking trails for Christmas week,” Larson added.
While mountain biking and infrastructure upgrades headline the season, Sugarloaf is also celebrating the 40th anniversary of the Sugarloaf Golf Club, ranked among the top public courses in the country, with an anniversary weekend September 12–14. Both the Golf Club and the Bike Park will remain open through October 19, with the Bike Park capping off the season with a celebratory closing weekend.
Looking ahead, Strand said the energy from summer will carry into winter.
“We have a lot to look forward to as we head into our 75th season,” he said. “We’re looking forward to welcoming everyone back for Homecoming and can’t wait to share this milestone season with our Sugarloaf family.”
As the seasons change, fall offers one of the best times to experience Sugarloaf, with brilliant foliage setting the stage for golf, mountain biking, and scenic lift rides. Guests can also secure their New England Pass during the summer sale, ending September 10, and be ready to join in the celebration of Sugarloaf’s 75th ski season this winter.
