CARRABASSETT VALLEY, MAINE—Mother Nature held onto her title as the ultimate ski racing arbiter today, as officials were forced to cancel the Toyota U.S. Alpine Championship and HomeLight North American Continental Cup (NorAm) Championship Super G races at Sugarloaf. 

Significant icing at upper elevations on Sugarloaf Mountain, Maine’s second-highest peak, prevented racers from competing on the world-famous Narrow Gauge trail, as race crews spent the day resetting safety nets and gates to prepare for the upcoming tech events (giant slalom and slalom).&nbsp

Racing will resume tomorrow with the women’s NorAm Giant Slalom Championship, followed by the men’s NorAm Giant Slalom Championship on Sunday, March 27. The men’s and women’s NorAm Slalom Championship races will follow, on Monday, March 28.

The next U.S. Alpine Championship races will happen on Wednesday, March 30, with the men’s and women’s slalom championship. The men’s U.S. Alpine Championship Giant Slalom races will take place on Thursday, March 31, followed by the women’s U.S. Alpine Championship Giant Slalom on Friday, April 1. 

As the country’s most prestigious domestic alpine ski racing event, the US Alpine Championships give up-and-coming athletes looking to advance their position on the U.S. Ski Team a chance to face off against A-Team stars. 

This is the eighth time Sugarloaf has played host to the championships, having previously done so in 1996, 1997, 2006, 2008, 2015, 2017, and 2019.
