CARRABASSETT VALLEY, MAINE—Myles Silverman, a 24-year-old competitive snowboarder who grew up in Carrabassett Valley, broke the Guinness World Record for greatest vertical distance snowboarded in 12 hours at Sugarloaf on Monday.

Silverman set the record by snowboarding for 12 consecutive hours on the SuperQuad chairlift at Sugarloaf, from 6:30am to 6:30pm. The resort ran the lift for 4.5 additional hours beyond its normal operating schedule to support Silverman’s record attempt. Silverman completed a total of 56 laps on the SuperQuad over the course of 12 hours, totaling 95,088 vertical feet.

The previous Guinness World Record was 62,355 vertical feet, and was achieved in 2017 by Keith Hayes at Sun Peaks Resort in British Columbia. Hart made a total of 40 runs over a period of 9 hours and 48 minutes. (See current Guinness World Record)

Silverman’s new record will now need to be certified by Guinness World Records before becoming official. A team of volunteers worked to document precise times of each lap throughout the 12-hour period, and the entire attempt was captured on video.

Silverman is a World Cup snowboarder in parallel slalom and giant slalom, and is based out of Steamboat Springs, CO.
