Reunite with your Sugarloaf family at the 2020 Homecoming Celebration, October 10-11. As always, we'll be offering free scenic lift rides and live music all weekend, and will host the Upcountry Artists' Sugarloaf Art Show in the Base Lodge.

Like all events, there's a chance that we'll need to cancel, postpone, or restructure Homecoming 2020. We'll continue to adhere to all safety guidance from the Maine CDC.

Sugarloaf Home & Art Show

Painters, jewelers, wood workers, and a whole lot more will be set up on Saturday and Sunday at the Sugarloaf Home Show and Upcountry Artists' Sugarloaf Art Show. It's a great way to get a jump start on your holiday shopping while supporting local artists.

Children's Art Workshops

Upcountry Artists will host free children's art workshops on Saturday and Sunday.

  • Workshops will be held upstairs in rentals in the Base Lodge and are limited to 15 children per session, first come first served.
  • Workshops are 1.5-2 hrs in length, and parents are invited to drop their child off and head to the Sugarloaf Art Show to check out the amazing work of over 50 Maine artists.
  • Workshops are led by artists Saskia Reinholt and Anne Poirier-Flight, and sponsored by the members of UpCountry Artists.

    • Open Creativity Studio- Ages 5 & up
      Bring your imagination, this open studio is intended for children ages 5 and up. Artists will have the opportunity to rotate through various stations, creating amazing and unique artwork along the way. Open studio format; come by anytime between 10am and noon.
    • Saturday & Sunday 10-12 (drop in anytime)
    • Painting Workshop- Ages 8 & up
      Weather dependent, we will be outside doing an “En Plein Air” painting of one of the most iconic mountains on the east coast, Sugarloaf. This workshop is intended for children ages 8 and up.
    • Saturday 1-3
    • Card Making- Ages 8 & up
      With so many special days and reasons to celebrate, there is always an occasion to give a card. Come to this workshop and stamp, cut and paste away; creating one of a kind handmade cards just in time for the holiday season. This workshop is intended for children ages 8 and up.
    • Saturday 3-4:30
    • Working with Leather- Ages 8 & up
      With a few simple tools, artists will have the opportunity to design and create a unique leather pouch or case. This workshop involves the use of sharp tools and is open to children ages 8 and up.
    • Sunday 1-3

Pumpkin Decorating

Please join us for Pumpkin Decorating from 8:30-11:00am on Saturday. We'll provide pumpkins and art supplies, and the pumpkins will be displayed for everyone to enjoy before you go. Free and open to all ages.

Maine Outdoor Film Festival

A Sugarloaf Homecoming tradition, the Maine Outdoor Film Festival returns for a special movie viewing in the Competition Center around 6:30pm on Saturday. 

Uphill Climb

Just like our founders, Amos Winter and the Bigelow Boys, you'll be trudging up the mountain with your hands, legs and heart. This is no cake walk. You'll run from the base of Sugarloaf to the summit (about 2400 vertical feet). You'll sweat. You'll gasp for breathe. And in the end, you'll have tackled the toughest mountain run in Maine. Race starts at the SuperQuad 11:00 Sunday morning.

Kids' Climb

The Kids' Climb is a rowdy, friendly, fun obstacle course held on the Landing Sunday at 10am. Proceeds from the Kids' Climb benefit Early Care and Education Programs at Western Maine Center for Children. Registration is open Sunday from 8-10am on the Beach; $10 per kid. Age categories are 3-5, 6-8, and 9-11.
