Media Alert: Press conference at 2:30pm regarding Sugarloaf search and rescue

CARRABASSETT VALLEY, ME – Representatives from the Maine Wardens Service and Sugarloaf will hold a press conference at 2:30pm in the Carrabassett Room of the Sugarloaf Mountain Hotel to provide an update on the status of the ongoing search and rescue.

Sugarloaf ski patrollers are currently working with Maine State Game Wardens to search for a 17 year old male skier who was reported missing Sunday afternoon.

The skier was last seen near the Timberline trail on the west side of the mountain, and was reported missing by his family when he failed to meet them at a designated time.

Patrollers and Game Wardens are using skis, snowshoes, and snowmobiles to search both in-bounds and out-of-bounds areas today.

Crews searched for the skier throughout much of the night last night, before suspending the search temporarily at 1:30am due to poor visibility. Searching resumed at first light this morning.

Temperatures at Sugarloaf last night were in the mid-20s, with light snow falling.

We will provide additional updates as more information becomes available.
