Sugarloaf Golf Club to open on May 27
CARRABASSETT VALLEY, Maine (Thursday May 26, 2011) – The Sugarloaf Golf Club, Maine’s premier golf course, will kick off its 26th season on Friday, May 27. Earlier this spring Sugarloaf was honored in Golf Digest’s 2011 course rankings as Maine’s #1 golf course, the 25th time it has earned that distinction.
Despite a long, snow winter that provided the Sugarloaf ski resort with its second latest closing date in history, the recent mild and wet weather allowed the golf course to open as scheduled.
“Winters in the mountains can be challenging, but we have a talented crew here at Sugarloaf and they were able to get the course into great shape in time for our Memorial Day weekend opening,” Sugarloaf’s Head Professional Steve Niezgoda said.
New to the course this year, golfers will enjoy a brand-new fleet of electric golf carts, which will be quieter and more environmentally friendly, making for a more enjoyable experience. Golfers will also notice significant improvements to Sugarloaf’s fifth hole, which will greatly increase player friendliness on what has historically been one of the most difficult holes on the course.
Also new to the course are a number of ways to save on rounds of golf at Sugarloaf. The course is currently offering Fore Packs and Green Cards, a pair of products which allow golfers to pre-purchase their rounds at a reduced rate, and then use those rounds later in the season. Both are available for purchase online at www.sugarloaf.com.
The Sugarloaf Golf Club is Maine’s preeminent golfing destination, and has consistently been ranked as one of Maine and New England’s premier golf courses since it opened 26 years ago.
