Today at Sugarloaf
August 15th is date that you could look at in either of two ways. The first would that we're actually not even halfway through August yet. The second (and the one I personally prefer) would be that we're a mere three months away from ski season.
Three months. That's all that stands between us and skiing. It's not much time, in the grand scheme of things, which is why our mountain ops crew is kicking into high gear on projects ranging from the new hot tub at the Sugarloaf Mountain Hotel, all the up to the summit of Burnt Mountain, where the glade crew is forging ahead on new terrain.
The glade crew is armed with a full fleet of brand new chainsaws this summer, and they're putting them to good use, with an ambitious goal to open up a brand new section of glades on Burnt Mountain, streching from the Eastern Territory all the way to the summit, covering nearly 800 vertical feet. Check out the Sugarloaf 2020 blog for pictures and more details.
The snowmaking crew is hard at work as well, with 6400 feet of new snowmaking pipe already installed on Gondi Line, and a fleet of 200 new Low-E HKD snowguns, which just arrived at the mountain today. Those guns are headed for many new homes around the mountain, including Gondi Line, Scoot, Narrow Gauge, Ramdown, and Widowmaker.
So even though it's only August 15, it's full steam ahead towards winter here at the Loaf. Leaves are already beginning to change color, and Homecoming Weekend will be here before you know it.
Be sure to follow along with all the action in the Sugarloaf 2020 blog and the Sugarloaf Blue Room.
See you soon.
