Whiffletree Gearbox Repairs
After it was shipped to Michigan to definitively determine the source of the problem that our Lift Mechanics detected last weekend, the Whiffletree gear box has been repaired, and it is now en route back to Sugarloaf and is expected to arrive late tonight. After it is returned, there's still roughly a week's worth of reinstallation and testing before the lift with be ready re-open to the public.
While in Michigan, the third party vendor contracted to perform the repairs was able determine that it was in fact a worn out bearing in the front of the gearbox that needed to be replaced.
Our lift mechanics plan to reinstall the gearbox at Whiffletree early next week; the lift will then need to be load tested, which is tentatively scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday of next week. Experts from Dopplemayer will be arriving on Monday to oversee the reinstallation and load testing.
The goal is to have the Whiffletree Quad back in operation for the weekend of March 19-20.
We'll continue to keep you updated here with the latest information on reinstallation and expected re-opening, in the coming days.
